SHUK

this just might be my favorite place in jerusalem... a simple market with lots of life. (in hebrew: "Shuk" -with long U sound) So come on, jump on bus #21 with me for 5.5 shekels, let's go to the shuk and get some challah! (shabbat braided bread, view at end)
what's this? a bean? a root?
warm blankets
HALVA! HALVA! HALVA!!! huge bricks of halva! (sweet sesame bar)
jewish hats for men
some jews believe not to cut the hair on sides of their heads (in Leviticus)
yum nuts.
mmm... fresh pita!
cute shop. I'll give someone a shekel if they can guess what the tall red powder stuff is! :)
incredible teas!
Challah -shabbat bread (for meal/communion on friday nights, which i've done every friday with friends since i've been here!)

kibbutz

a nearby kibbutz holds a very nice hotel (which may soon be my new swimming resort).
Rachel is recognized, as this is the place she mourned for her children. Jeremiah 31:15-17 "Rachel weeping for her children, refusing to be comforted for her children, because they are no more. Thus says the Lord, “Refrain your voice from weeping, and your eyes from tears; For your work shall be rewarded...There is hope in your future.”

Jericho II

I'm slowly learning ... but i've realized that i'm going into palestinian (arab) refugee camps where terrorism is born. Poverty and anger breeds terrorists. So I'm helping to bring baby's milk, blankets and Bibles to the Hamas terrorist families! ...but mom, don't worry, it's all approved through the Israeli Army. I'm safe. :)
This is where the Lord asked Joshua, "are you for Me or against Me?"

chiropractor

just thought it interesting to see where i go for jewish chiropractic care. the little apartment-like place is the office. :)

Mt. of Temptations

In Jericho, the Mount of Temptations is where Jesus was tempted by satan during His 40-day fast. (chapter 4 in Matthew and Luke) I journeyed up it in a cable car to a restaurant! (you see black cable lines, cuz i was IN the cable car taking this pic!)
Looking down is the Valley of Achor!
Hosea 2:14-15, "I will allure her, bring her into the wilderness and speak kindly to her. Then I will give her her vineyards from there, and the valley of Achor as a door of hope."

the Crossing

Israelites entered their land at this "crossing" point, across the Jordan River. The land I'm standing on is Israel, the land across the river is Jordan. This is also where Jesus was baptized! I was the photographer for a media event. Filming for a TV show took place as palestinian refugees and a couple hundred others from many nationalities came together at the "Eastern Gate" to celebrate the living Yeshua. Ezekiel 43
i spotted a jordanian across the river! ya, i was in mine land! The Israeli Army hosted this event! you can see the "worry" on faces of the palestinian (refugees) children, as they are born into terrorism-breeding camps.

The Dead Sea

Incredibly beautiful at every angle. The weather was a bit too chilly, so no floating in the salty sea for me. I'll just have to return in the summer. :)
Check out all the salt!
tons of salt!
you can see Jordan across the Sea!

Jericho

Every Tuesday I will be going to Jericho to help in the refugee camps. Here is the tree they say Zacchaeus climbed up. The wee little man. This is the Elisha Springs! (II Kings 2:21-22) The "double portion" anointing! This spring fuels life in Jericho. I went to the main source, where it bubbles up out of the ground, and you can drink it! Crystal Clean. mm
Enjoy the arab faces in the refugee camp. and I so enjoyed playing the djembe... and the children swarmed me! They don't see foreigners much.

City of David

The City of David sits just outside the Old City.
the valley where King Solomon kept his 1000 wives. He also allowed them to bring there prophets (false) to the City and a small hill sat next to this valley where the prophets lived. This mount is called the Counsel of Evil. Today the UN sits on it. :)
children playing in the streets
This is where Jesus walked! It is the lowest point in the City of David, so actual road Jesus walked!
Me walking in Hezekiah's tunnel. II Kings 20:20 and II Chronicles 32:30
It was pitch black, you only see light because the photographer used a flash. It was about a 45min walk. Barely 3ft. wide and sometimes as low as 5ft. high. My friend had a flashlight, so I could see a bit. The tunnel's entrance is the Gihon Springs (in Kidron Valley) where King Solomon was baptized, the exit is the Pool of Siloam. This tunnel is under the City of David. *for a little education: King David crowned his son Solomon King of Israel (I Kings 1:33) and Solomon was probably the wisest man in the Bible. He wrote Song of Solomon, Proverbs and Ecclesiastes and thousands of proverbs and songs. He had Joab carry water from this spring up to the City.
I see the light at the end of the tunnel! You see lots o light, cuz of camera flash again.
This is an underground jail where Jesus was scourged by Pilate and left in this pit! The pedestal here holds Psalms 88 in many languages. Also at this location of the underground jail, is where Peter denied Jesus and the rooster crowed three times. So there are rooster signs everywhere!
This is sitting down, looking up view. Imagining what Jesus saw. No way out and only a hole in the ceiling and a very high window (not sure if that was there in His time).
beautiful view through an abandoned home in the City. mmmm... and the excursion ended with a nice hot cup o shocolatte, along with my 4 new german friends. *notice this milk is thicker than the one in my video! i love it when the chips stay on top and melt to the bottom! :)
